Income Tax Return Filing Due Date Extended To December 31 according to Government, keeping in mind the coronavirus pandemic situation and constant technical problems with the website that caters to this. Normally, every year the due date for filing Income Tax Returns is the end of July month and this is the 2nd time this date has been extended to December 31. The last time, Government extended the due date was September 30 that was again extended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Income Tax Return Filing Due Date – “On consideration of issues reported by the taxpayers and other concerned people in the filing of Income Tax Returns and various other issues reported for the audit of Assessment Year 2021-22 under the Income-tax Act, 1961(the “Act”), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has reached a decision to again extend the due dates for filing of Income Tax Returns and various other audits for the Assessment Year 2021-22,” the Finance Ministry said in a circular.

The Earlier Income Tax Return Filing Due Date was extended by the Govt till September 2021.

“The due date of completing of Return of Income for the Assessment Year 2021-22, which was 31st July 2021 under sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Act, as extended to 30th September 2021 via Circular No.9/2021 dated 20.05.2021, is hereby again extended to 31st December 2021,” it mentioned.

The deadline for companies filing the income tax has also been extended till February 15, 2022, from November 30, 2021, and the due date for filing the tax audit report and transfer pricing certificate has also been further extended to January 15, 2022, and January 31, 2022, respectively, from the earlier deadline of October 31 and November 30, respectively.

For filing a belated or reworked return of income, the end date has been further extended by another two months to March 31, 2022.

With regard to the problems and issues occurring in the tax portal, the finance ministry on Wednesday declared it is regularly in talks with the engineers and management of the website who handle the development and technical part of it and we will ensure that users go through a smooth experience on our portal.
